Groundwork Action develops strategic campaigns that beat back the conservative economic agenda and advance progressive economic priorities to improve the lives of working families. We rely on a full toolbox of communications and advocacy strategies – generating earned and paid media, engaging and briefing key decision makers, seizing on key rapid response moments, publishing innovative research and creating content, and organizing strategic pressure at key moments – in order to build an economy that works for us all. 

Position Summary

The Senior Research Manager will work closely with the Executive Director, Campaign Director, consultants, and other members of the team to drive research and policy work on multiple advocacy campaigns. 

As Senior Research Manager, you will…

  • Work closely with the Executive Director and other members of the team to formulate and execute campaign research strategies and plans, particularly around inflation, the Federal Reserve, tax and spending, IRS modernization, and other progressive priorities; 
  • Conduct original policy research that supports the advocacy efforts of Groundwork Action and its campaigns;
  • Help develop research projects and identify research opportunities that will support Groundwork Action and its campaigns;
  • Prepare thorough background materials for multiple audiences;
  • Work closely with the communications team on rapid response and other publicly-facing materials;
  • Draft memos and other materials;

  • You have a proven track record of producing research that drives narratives and influences policy;
  • You have a talent for storytelling and pulling in stories of ordinary people to support advocacy efforts in Washington, DC; 
  • You have experience producing research to support rapid response opportunities;
  • You have experience supporting or producing research that quantifies the impacts of policy decisions;
  • You are an effective communicator, both with your team and with external partners. You are able to find the most effective way to convey complex information to any audience.
  • You’re organized and a pro at multitasking and working under tight deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment;.
  • You’re a motivated self-starter;
  • You’re excited about helping build a new organization and brand;
  • You’re excited about thinking creatively and developing new strategies in order to secure advocacy wins.

The starting salary for this position is $79,000 with flexibility to offer a higher salary for highly-qualified candidates. We offer a generous benefits package, two week-long office closures, additional time off for floating and federal holidays, zero-premium health insurance, a generous HRA, a retirement match of up to 6%, a minimum of 12 weeks parental leave, health club and cell-phone reimbursements, among other benefits.

Groundwork is a unionized workplace represented by the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union (NPEU). This position is in the bargaining unit and is covered under the collective bargaining agreement terms.

We are a hybrid workplace, with two days a week in the office, and three days remote, as well as the occasional need to work in person for events and special projects.
